Journaling tips to get you started!

Like the idea of journaling but struggle to get started?
These tips are for you!

  1. Take the pressure off yourself. Your journal is for you and only you. It is not being presented to or judged by anyone else… Nor is anyone keeping tabs on how often you’re journaling or for how long.
  2. Create a space that inspires you to write and reflect. This might be as simple as some quiet alone time, relaxed on the lounge, or you might choose to set up a dedicated writing space. You might also like to take a notebook down to the beach or a park. Again, this will be something unique to you, & what space you can create.
  3. Start small. Just noting down one sentence about how you’re feeling or about something that has happened, or noting down the answer to one question can get the flow going. Pick a topic that you want to write about, it can be anything!
  4. Don’t give up. Keep experimenting until you find what works for you! Try morning, try night, try different settings. Your journal doesn’t even need words. If you’re not feeling the words and are more comfortable drawing, or scrapbooking, then explore and reflect this way!

  1. Starting small is a very underrated tip. So many people think that they need to start journalling by filling up a page a day. But once sentence is enough too. Anything to describe the day, your thoughts, or how you feel. I personally know many friends who quit journalling because they see it as a chore. Anyway, thanks for this post!

    • That’s it! We can put too much pressure on ourselves that we either don’t start or give up. It applies to more things that journaling but this is a start. I’m glad it resonated for you!
