Savouring

The act of savouring appears to be a lost art for so many of us.

What do I mean by savouring?

The pure joy within when we truly drink something in. When we give it our full focus & attention without a single distraction. When we feel it with all of our senses. When there is no room in our hearts or minds for anything else in that moment.

When was the last time you truly savoured something?

That bath

That book

That cup of tea or coffee

That sunset

That conversation

That embrace

That chocolate

That walk or run

That song

That bunch of flowers

That view…

We’ve become so focused on this need to be doing all the time, & doing so much, that we’ve forgotten how to savour.

We’ve become so attached to being connected & plugged in that we aren’t switching off enough.

We’re not savouring the little things, that really aren’t so little at all.

Give yourself the gift of savouring.

Make time to sit quietly with that coffee. Feel the warmth of the cup. Breathe in the strong aromas. Notice the marks being made on the cup with every enjoyable sip.

Run that relaxing bath. Notice the softness of your skin as the warm water washes over it. Enjoy the quiet calm without reaching for the distracting phone. Soak in the smells of soap suds or oils or candles burning.

Really absorb that cuddle. Feel the points at which you both connect, soft t-shirts, or their little arms around your neck. Notice the smells of washed hair, perfumes, fresh breath or sweets consumed. Spy each little freckle on scrunched up noses.

Savour.

It’s so important that we remember this simple art, & that we practice regularly so as not to forget. For in savouring, we can find joy & inner peace from the smallest of things, that really aren’t so small at all 💛

More Magnificent Mandalas

What an amazing day yesterday, working with this wonderful group to create their masterpieces 😍

To start, they were all nervous, unsure of what they wanted to create, & then they trusted the process, followed what they were drawn to, let go of fears, & created stunning pieces that they were so proud of & did not expect to create – I LOVE it!! ❤️

A year ago today, I painted my very first Mandala at the inspirational Karen Scott’s Mandala Magic workshop in Victoria. Less than 5 months later I started my first evening workshop, sharing my space with others, & one day short of 12 months later, I ran my first full day workshop.

When you know, you know 💛

I went to bed last night with so much gratitude in my heart for having been introduced to Karen & Gary & the amazing work they do.

For being able to create my own space to share this beautiful tool of creative self exploration & care.

To give so many the much needed opportunity to take time out of their busy lives to calm their minds & create.

For the support I have to enable me to do what I love so much!

If you’d love to join me on this journey, my next evening series will start on Tues 12th Feb & my next full day workshop is on Sunday 17th Feb in Atwell.

Looking forward to supporting you through this beautiful process 💛

Simone xx

Creating space

Last night, I was reflecting on the beautiful spaces I have, how they came about, & what inspired them.

They didn’t just come out of the blue, in fact, my painting room would seem it was 4 years in the making, but they both started from creating space for the things I have come to love.

Back when setting up our home & nesting whilst due with our firstborn, I wanted to create a relaxation haven in our then theatre room. I had just had an amazing pregnancy massage at the beautiful at endota day spa, a place that hubby & would treat ourselves to on special occasions back in our Melbourne days, & so I was inspired to recreate the feeling of being there, opting for a shade of Endota green on the walls. The room then changed as it became an office space for hubby’s business, but after having set up a painting corner for me in a spare room, we soon realised that this was only the start, & that my relaxation haven that I had created all those years ago would be the perfect space to share my love of painting mandalas with others 🎨💛

Before finding my passion for painting, I found my passion for writing. I decided I wanted to create a beautiful space to further inspire my writings so I set up a corner in our bedroom, bought a desk & a chair, & decorated it to make it my own. Again, after creating space for something I loved, that space evolved as I revisited my Reiki practice at Angel Light Heart and Soul Healing, & we decided to convert our study (which was our much loved dressing room) into a Reiki room / writing space / meditation space, initially for personal use, but now for much more ✨

In doing all these things, in making all these changes, I didn’t knowingly set out to create a room to now be seeing clients for relaxing Reiki / Intuitive Coaching sessions.

I didn’t set out to create a space to be running soulful Mandala Painting Workshops.

It started with a little corner in a room or 2.

It started with being inspired by a place I visited.

It started with recreating a feeling I wanted to feel.

It started with creating space for the things that set my soul on fire.

It doesn’t have to be big, you just need to make space 💛

How can you create a little space for something you love?

A sewing corner, perhaps?

Or a reading nook?

You never know what journey that little space could take you on ✨

Wasted energy

How much time & energy do we waste on being angry, frustrated, resentful, or jealous?

How do all of these emotions make us feel? Tense, exhausted, sick, flat?

What are they doing to our state of being?

When we feel these emotions, we don’t feel motivated in a positive way, we’re not productive, we get grumpy, we lose our logic & reasoning, we might resort to consuming things (junk food etc) that further lower our energy levels.

When we’re in these states of low vibration, how can we expect that we would attract anything of a high vibration (ie positive) when the vibe we’re giving off is perhaps less attractive?

Now, this is not to say that we can’t feel angry, frustrated, resentful, jealous, etc, because we are only human, having our experiences & learning our lessons, but rather about questioning what purpose it serves to feel these emotions for longer than necessary to work out where they’re coming from & what we need to change or release.

If we could pull ourselves out of our states of lower vibration by perhaps, listening to our favourite tunes, visiting a favourite place, speaking to a favourite person, thinking of our favourite things, anything that lifts us back up, then we will get back to a state of logical reasoning faster & be in a better place to make the necessary changes that we need to make to move forward on our journey 💛

The next time we’re feeling angry, frustrated, resentful, or jealous, let’s try sitting with our feelings for only as long as we need to work out the why (we’re feeling this way, if not already obvious) & the what (needs to be done), & then look for something that is uplifting & watch how our state of being & our reactions change 💛

Defensive

A note for the times we may find ourselves getting defensive or when someone may have rubbed us up the wrong way (which could be timely for those get-togethers that took place over the Christmas break 🙈)…

We get defensive when there are emotions involved. When there is past hurt, anger, sadness, jealousy, etc that has not yet been dealt with or healed.

The feelings do not have to be directly connected with that person, rather they are just ‘poking the beast’ & bringing out unhealed parts of ourselves.

It can help to explore the situations as they arise, either with someone or on our own (ie. in a journal) so that we can really delve into the depths of the feelings that are being evoked. In doing so, we are also adding in a pause (where possible) before we respond, so that we can respond in a more logical & rational way, having thought through our emotional reactions, rather than responding in a way we do not wish to.

Perhaps there is more to the situation.

Something that we need more information on, or something we are misinterpreting as our ‘issue’ when it could be something in the other person that we are picking up on, something that they are feeling & perhaps not sure how to express or are expressing in a way they are not intending.

There are so many different ways to interpret things. The key is to give some thought as to how & why we might be reacting in a certain way, to remember that the emotions may not be connected with the person or thing that is triggering them, & that the way we are responding generally has a whole lot more to do with us & the way we are experiencing things, rather than how others are intending things to be interpreted.

If we depersonalise situations, it can really help with working through & healing the underlying emotions that are arising.

All is well when we breathe, reflect & adjust as needed 💛

Forget resolutions, start living

Each year, on our way home from our family camping trip, hubby & I talk about our goals for the year ahead, our hopes & dreams – because long car rides on the way home from holidays are good for that 😍

As we started sharing this time, I said, “I want to focus less on what needs to be done all the time, & more on relaxing & spending time in our backyard”.

It sounds so simple. Spending quality family time at home.

But, how often do we do that?

How often do we enjoy time at home without thinking about what needs to be done, or feeling like we need to be out doing things?

How often do we do we set goals that add unnecessary pressure, rather than just simply choosing to live happy lives?

Lives where we’re not rushing about, but we’re spending quiet, quality time with those we love.

Where we’re not chasing unrealistic goals or things, but we’re content with what we have.

Where we’re not trying to be so many things, but we value ourselves & the skin we’re in.

Where we’re finding the joy in the little things & choosing to be grateful for what we’ve invited into our lives…

So, when we’re setting your intentions for 2019, let’s forget the standard New Years resolutions around weights, diets, achievements, reductions, etc.

Let’s focus on the lives we’re living & the parts that fill our heart & soul.

Focus on the emotions we want to feel, the vibe we want to have, the moments we want to savour, the foods we want to enjoy, the company we want to laugh with.

Let’s focus on how many quiet moments we can create, how much giving we’re doing & how much receiving, how much we’re listening to our bodies & what they need, & how we’re riding the waves.

Let’s focus on living ✨
