What it took

And this is what it took

For family bonds to be restored

For homes to be taken care of

For those odd jobs to be done

And this is what it took

For puzzles to be dusted off

For forts to be built

For more books to be read

And this is what it took

For families to bake together

For our bodies to be nourished

For health to be prioritised

And this is what it took

For children to learn of boredom

For friendships to strengthen

For the birds to be heard

And this is what it took

For driveways to be played on

For rainbows to be drawn

For neighbours to connect

And this is what it took

For time in nature to be appreciated

For music to be enjoyed

For creativity to come alive

And this is what it took

For communities to unite

For Mother Earth to regenerate

For new ways to be discovered

And this is what it took

For the world to truly slow down

And if this is what it took…

What are we taking away from all of this?

Game Changer

We are the creators of our own happiness. Only we can choose

How we see things

What we focus on

How things make us feel

Who we surround ourselves with

What we put into our bodies

How we spend our time

How we experience things

We can consciously choose to focus on the positives, & what is happening for us, rather than what is not happening

We can choose to focus on the good in ourselves & others

We can choose to be grateful for the simple things – for each day, for each breath

We can choose to allow things to get us down, or we can choose to look at our reactions & what we might really need

We can choose to give out all of our energy, or we can choose to consider our needs & make ourselves a priority

We can choose to say no to the people, events, foods, etc that don’t align with us, that don’t fulfil us or make us feel good

We can choose to rely on others for our own happiness, or we can take responsibility for ourselves & ask ourselves what we truly need (& listen to the response)

We may not be able to choose the weather, or what is happening to those around us, but we can choose what we make of each day, where we want to be, & how our external factors affect us.

We get to choose how we show up each & every day

And when we realise how much choice we have, the game truly changes

Take a deep breath, pause & decide.

How do you want to feel?

How do you want to be seen?

Savouring

The act of savouring appears to be a lost art for so many of us.

What do I mean by savouring?

The pure joy within when we truly drink something in. When we give it our full focus & attention without a single distraction. When we feel it with all of our senses. When there is no room in our hearts or minds for anything else in that moment.

When was the last time you truly savoured something?

That bath

That book

That cup of tea or coffee

That sunset

That conversation

That embrace

That chocolate

That walk or run

That song

That bunch of flowers

That view…

We’ve become so focused on this need to be doing all the time, & doing so much, that we’ve forgotten how to savour.

We’ve become so attached to being connected & plugged in that we aren’t switching off enough.

We’re not savouring the little things, that really aren’t so little at all.

Give yourself the gift of savouring.

Make time to sit quietly with that coffee. Feel the warmth of the cup. Breathe in the strong aromas. Notice the marks being made on the cup with every enjoyable sip.

Run that relaxing bath. Notice the softness of your skin as the warm water washes over it. Enjoy the quiet calm without reaching for the distracting phone. Soak in the smells of soap suds or oils or candles burning.

Really absorb that cuddle. Feel the points at which you both connect, soft t-shirts, or their little arms around your neck. Notice the smells of washed hair, perfumes, fresh breath or sweets consumed. Spy each little freckle on scrunched up noses.

Savour.

It’s so important that we remember this simple art, & that we practice regularly so as not to forget. For in savouring, we can find joy & inner peace from the smallest of things, that really aren’t so small at all 💛

Creating space

Last night, I was reflecting on the beautiful spaces I have, how they came about, & what inspired them.

They didn’t just come out of the blue, in fact, my painting room would seem it was 4 years in the making, but they both started from creating space for the things I have come to love.

Back when setting up our home & nesting whilst due with our firstborn, I wanted to create a relaxation haven in our then theatre room. I had just had an amazing pregnancy massage at the beautiful at endota day spa, a place that hubby & would treat ourselves to on special occasions back in our Melbourne days, & so I was inspired to recreate the feeling of being there, opting for a shade of Endota green on the walls. The room then changed as it became an office space for hubby’s business, but after having set up a painting corner for me in a spare room, we soon realised that this was only the start, & that my relaxation haven that I had created all those years ago would be the perfect space to share my love of painting mandalas with others 🎨💛

Before finding my passion for painting, I found my passion for writing. I decided I wanted to create a beautiful space to further inspire my writings so I set up a corner in our bedroom, bought a desk & a chair, & decorated it to make it my own. Again, after creating space for something I loved, that space evolved as I revisited my Reiki practice at Angel Light Heart and Soul Healing, & we decided to convert our study (which was our much loved dressing room) into a Reiki room / writing space / meditation space, initially for personal use, but now for much more ✨

In doing all these things, in making all these changes, I didn’t knowingly set out to create a room to now be seeing clients for relaxing Reiki / Intuitive Coaching sessions.

I didn’t set out to create a space to be running soulful Mandala Painting Workshops.

It started with a little corner in a room or 2.

It started with being inspired by a place I visited.

It started with recreating a feeling I wanted to feel.

It started with creating space for the things that set my soul on fire.

It doesn’t have to be big, you just need to make space 💛

How can you create a little space for something you love?

A sewing corner, perhaps?

Or a reading nook?

You never know what journey that little space could take you on ✨

Wasted energy

How much time & energy do we waste on being angry, frustrated, resentful, or jealous?

How do all of these emotions make us feel? Tense, exhausted, sick, flat?

What are they doing to our state of being?

When we feel these emotions, we don’t feel motivated in a positive way, we’re not productive, we get grumpy, we lose our logic & reasoning, we might resort to consuming things (junk food etc) that further lower our energy levels.

When we’re in these states of low vibration, how can we expect that we would attract anything of a high vibration (ie positive) when the vibe we’re giving off is perhaps less attractive?

Now, this is not to say that we can’t feel angry, frustrated, resentful, jealous, etc, because we are only human, having our experiences & learning our lessons, but rather about questioning what purpose it serves to feel these emotions for longer than necessary to work out where they’re coming from & what we need to change or release.

If we could pull ourselves out of our states of lower vibration by perhaps, listening to our favourite tunes, visiting a favourite place, speaking to a favourite person, thinking of our favourite things, anything that lifts us back up, then we will get back to a state of logical reasoning faster & be in a better place to make the necessary changes that we need to make to move forward on our journey 💛

The next time we’re feeling angry, frustrated, resentful, or jealous, let’s try sitting with our feelings for only as long as we need to work out the why (we’re feeling this way, if not already obvious) & the what (needs to be done), & then look for something that is uplifting & watch how our state of being & our reactions change 💛

Heart healing

A week & a half ago after a trip to the ED, I was told I had viral pericarditis (inflammation of the sac around the heart) on top of the tonsillitis that our youngest kindly passed on… forcing me to REALLY slow down & rest my body. Whilst I’m frustrated that I can’t physically do what I want to at the moment, or what I would normally do, & things haven’t gone to plan (i.e. having to postpone the last 2 weeks of my Mandala Painting Workshop & clients), I have certainly received the message loud & clear that I need to look after myself.

Rather than focusing on what I’m not doing or what I maybe could have done to prevent it, I’m choosing to accept what is & I’m choosing to listen to what I’m learning in these moments 💛

I’m learning how important it is to nurture ourselves, & to receive, especially when we are often in the space of giving.

I’m learning that I need to be comfortable with saying no & to set more boundaries.

I’m learning that I need to ask for what I need & to accept help when it is offered.

I’m learning that I need to be more open to receiving.

I’m learning that matters of the heart take time to heal. It’s not as simple as taking a panadol (or using my amazing past tense roller) for a headache & ‘getting on with it’. When the heart is in need of healing, physically, emotionally & spiritually, we need to rest our bodies.

So, if you’ve experienced a trauma recently that is connected to your heart (not just in the physical sense), or you’re going through something that is affecting your heart at the moment (maybe you’re remembering the loss of a loved one like I am today), allow yourself time to rest & time to heal.

Go easy on yourself.

Let go of any frustrations that you may have around plans, abilities, or emotions.

Set boundaries & create the space you need to reflect & process.

Make time for the things that bring you joy.

Seek out the things that will make you deep belly laugh.

Be gentle with yourself.

You will bounce back when you’ve given yourself time to heal 💗

Sending lots of love xx
