Journaling tips to get you started!

Like the idea of journaling but struggle to get started?
These tips are for you!

  1. Take the pressure off yourself. Your journal is for you and only you. It is not being presented to or judged by anyone else… Nor is anyone keeping tabs on how often you’re journaling or for how long.
  2. Create a space that inspires you to write and reflect. This might be as simple as some quiet alone time, relaxed on the lounge, or you might choose to set up a dedicated writing space. You might also like to take a notebook down to the beach or a park. Again, this will be something unique to you, & what space you can create.
  3. Start small. Just noting down one sentence about how you’re feeling or about something that has happened, or noting down the answer to one question can get the flow going. Pick a topic that you want to write about, it can be anything!
  4. Don’t give up. Keep experimenting until you find what works for you! Try morning, try night, try different settings. Your journal doesn’t even need words. If you’re not feeling the words and are more comfortable drawing, or scrapbooking, then explore and reflect this way!

Adding Value

Over the weekend hubby & I watched a couple of documentaries, & one of those was on the minimalist lifestyle. It offered great perspective & gave lots of food for thought, but one thing that really resonated with me was the idea that we bring all these ‘things’ into our life without questioning them, & whether they’re adding value to our lives or not.

What I loved about this idea, & this simplicity in questioning, is that it doesn’t just stop at material ‘things’, it can be applied to just about anything in our lives, from the food we eat, the relationships we keep, the thoughts we have, etc.

Over the past week, I’ve found myself questioning how I use my time on my phone on social media for example. I’m questioning, why I’m picking up my phone or pressing the home button to light up the screen?
What is it that I’m seeking from it?
What do I feel is lacking?
Is all my time on social media adding value to my life?
Where does the value lie?
I’m asking these questions, not because I see no value, as this is not the case, but rather to question the value vs the time spent so that I can be more purposeful with my time.

Today, these thoughts extended to my email accounts. I took a quick look through my emails & questioned what value they were adding to my life?
Do I need to receive multiple emails a week (sometimes a day) full of all these ‘things’ that I don’t need right now & wont be buying? When for me, I know that I will do my research when it comes time to buy something.
Are all these emails just adding to my list of things to do (cleaning out the inbox) & creating clutter in my online space?
Needless to say, I’ve now unsubscribed from over 20 mailing lists, & will continue this as different emails come through.

These are just a couple of examples where I’m choosing to question how things are adding value so that I am more in alignment with my purpose & where & how I want to be expending my energy.

What is something that you’ve never thought to question in your life?
Why you have it?
Why you use it?
Why you need it?
Why you give away your energy to it?

And what are some things that really add value to your life?

Game Changer

We are the creators of our own happiness. Only we can choose

How we see things

What we focus on

How things make us feel

Who we surround ourselves with

What we put into our bodies

How we spend our time

How we experience things

We can consciously choose to focus on the positives, & what is happening for us, rather than what is not happening

We can choose to focus on the good in ourselves & others

We can choose to be grateful for the simple things – for each day, for each breath

We can choose to allow things to get us down, or we can choose to look at our reactions & what we might really need

We can choose to give out all of our energy, or we can choose to consider our needs & make ourselves a priority

We can choose to say no to the people, events, foods, etc that don’t align with us, that don’t fulfil us or make us feel good

We can choose to rely on others for our own happiness, or we can take responsibility for ourselves & ask ourselves what we truly need (& listen to the response)

We may not be able to choose the weather, or what is happening to those around us, but we can choose what we make of each day, where we want to be, & how our external factors affect us.

We get to choose how we show up each & every day

And when we realise how much choice we have, the game truly changes

Take a deep breath, pause & decide.

How do you want to feel?

How do you want to be seen?

The power of art

How do you calm your mind?

For me, creating my first Mandala & giving myself space, guided me further on my path to unlocking my soul’s purpose ✨

Before that, I hadn’t given any thought or time or space for art & it’s form of creative meditation.

Art is so powerful. We can’t underestimate the power of creating, big or small.

Art brings to the forefront our truest selves, our deepest thoughts, feelings & fears.

The process of creating art is truly transformational, in the depths of the calm mind one can truly discover their soul’s purpose.

Art has the great ability to calm & focus the mind.

Giving yourself the space to create is the greatest gift 💛

When was the last time you gave yourself the space to create?

When was the last time you did some art?

How could doing some art help you?

I’m so glad I said yes to the experience with my bestie, & conquered my fears & self doubt, because the experience of creating my first Mandala & immersing myself in art has changed my world ✨

If you would love to give yourself a creative outlet, I have spots available in my upcoming Mandala Painting Workshops, why not get your friends together & make a day of it?

If something ‘arty’ sparks your interest, I encourage you to give it a go! Your soul is giving you a hint to get creative & the benefits are endless 💖

Home

What happens when we delve into the depths of despair?

When we truly acknowledge what is going on, in and around us?

When we honour our feelings, accept them and make peace with them?

What happens when we stop running, stop blocking, stop hiding, and we confront our feelings, and the darkness that lurks in the shadows?

When we switch off from the busyness of life, and we unplug and plug into ourselves and what we are experiencing, what we are going through?

Do you know?

Have you allowed yourself the freedom to explore what’s within?

To stop masking and hiding, and to get comfortable with your emotions?

To ask yourself what you really need?

What may be lacking? What needs healing? What you need support with?

Give yourself the space and time to regularly check in with yourself.

Ask yourself how you feel? What you could change? Who you could ask for support? Who you could turn to?

Place your hand on your heart and ask her what she might need, and if she feels loved?

So much healing can take place when we turn within and spend time speaking to ourselves.

Getting to know every part.

Remembering that this is home.

The place that we need to visit more often.

The place that offers us comfort, familiarity, and love.

Come back to self.

Come home.

Take this all in & take note of how it makes you feel. What is it bringing up for you?

Shedding

Just as trees shed their leaves, & some insects shed their skin, so too do we go through phases where we need to shed in order to grow.

And it is okay to shed.

Letting go of what no longer serves us is how we learn & evolve.

Letting go of ideas, ideals, relationships, things, ways of thinking, beliefs, is how we make way for the new. How we grow & change. How we are challenged to become more resilient.

It is okay to shed your ‘old skin’ in order to become more aligned with who you truly are & where you want to be. With more of what sets your soul on fire.

Shedding our leaves is what makes way for new growth.

Seasons change, & things change. Just like Mother Nature, we too need to adapt & shed to flourish.

Don’t be afraid to shed what is no longer in alignment for you.

It is your time to blossom 🌿🌼💖
